More printers using sales recruitment agency

An agency claims printers are relying on sales recruitment professionals to find them high-calibre teams, a source reveals.

George Thompson, the joint managing director of Harrison Scott Associates, which specialises in the print sector, says companies feeling the effects of the economic downturn are increasingly relying on their sales teams to "trade themselves out" of their problems, Printweek.com reports.

He states sales recruitment for these positions has seen a fall in the number of lower-paid vacancies in favour of fewer, but better salaried roles.

Corporate affairs director at British Printing Industries Federation Andrew Brown tells the website businesses are focussing resources on their largest projects.

He says: "Companies could be more likely to concentrate their sales forces on the bigger accounts where the larger jobs lie."

Explaining the shift, he claims the demand for experienced staff could account for this change.

In a survey conducted earlier this month, KPMG found a large decrease in the number of jobs available in areas such as sales with a corresponding increase in available talent.
