Reward employees with diverse perks, firms advised

Companies looking to recognise the efforts of their print sales staff and other employees may wish to consider non-financial rewards, it has been suggested.

While the credit crunch may reduce the availability of financial awards for people in sales jobs and other roles, a new Personnel Today report suggests that there are alternative ways of recognising staff achievements.

For instance, rolling out a salary sacrifice scheme - giving access to facilities such as childcare or bicycles - can benefit both workers and employers, the article recommends.

And Cambridgeshire county council gives a CamCard to all employees as soon as they join the authority, giving them access to discounts in restaurants and shops nearby.

Such initiatives can show workers they are appreciated even in tough times, the article indicates.

In related news, a Personnel Today interview with Peter Carroll, associate director of the Work Foundation, noted that human resources workers should avoid cutting out staff perks in tough times.
