Managers 'looking for personality' in sales jobs roles

Many managers look for personality when interviewing a candidate, a new survey has revealed.

A report carried out by workplace psychologist OPP has found that 25 per cent of recruiters will hire an applicant for a sales job if they like the individual on a personal level, over other factors such as qualifications.

Furthermore, 70 per cent of managers have admitted that they have made recruitment errors in the past and would go back and change their minds if they could.

Dr Robert McHenry, chief executive of OPP, commented: "Mistakes range from overestimating the potential of a person to discovering information further down the line that would have changed the decision. In any case, these decisions are often made covertly and in the absence of hard facts."

Meanwhile, minister for higher education David Lammy recently said that internships are an excellent way for graduates to increase the chances of gaining sales jobs success.
